dc.description.abstract Attempts to determine what has actually been done to implement consumer education at secondary school level, and if there is an existing need for secondary school consumer education. A questionnaire has been used to obtain data for empirical research. This provides information regarding aspects of consumer knowledge, consumer behaviour and consumer rights. The majority of respondents emphasise the need for consumer education by indicating that consumer education as a part of life skills could help all consumers. The majority of the respondents are of the opinion that the school's guidance programme should include consumer education. Several problem areas have been identified in the course of this study. Certain findings are outlined and recommendations made. en
