dc.description.abstract Examines the economic viability of ecotourism and hunting and compares them with an ordinary cattle farm in a similar situation. A potential tourism market is examined within the existing confines of South Africa, where the assumption is made that overseas tourism will fill the well known resorts and thereby create a domestic market of tourists who cannot afford the expensive holidays in these resorts. A business that specialises in hunting is the ultimate destination of any business that caters for ecotourism. It is, therefore, advisable that the farm be developed into a hunting operation, seeing that it yields the largest return on investment from the outset. Ecotourism yields the second largest return on investment and can be redefined towards hunting as a primary source of income. en
