dc.description.abstract Aims to develop a Bible-based model for youth ministry in the local congregation. The hypothesis tested and confirmed in this study is that younsters, as a consequence of the central Biblical theme of COVENANT, form an essential and unique part of the local church and chould be recognised and ministered to as such. Several properties are found to be scriptural requirements for ministry to the youth of the church (as well as to other groups). These include the concepts of the WORD, MINISTRY, and THE YOUTH OF THE COVENANT. The aims of youth ministry are identified as INTEGRATION into the congregation, INDIVIDUALIZATION to unique needs. PERSONAL SPIRITUAL GROWTH, and GROWTH OF THE CHURCH. Church law and historical developments in youth ministry are compared with these requirements. A model for youth ministry in the Reformed Churches in South Africa (GKSA) is proposed. en
