dc.description.abstract Despite the fact that Postmodernism occurs in the arts and is studied in a wide range of academic fields, this interest is apparently not generally articulated by a musicological view of reality. The aim of this study is therefore to determine how Postmodernism has influenced music by comparing it with architecture, literature and the visual arts. This study traced Postmodernism in architecture, literature and the visual arts. Three main postmodern influences were identified: (a) the blurring of boundaries between high and low art, between the different arts, between reality and fiction, between different cultures and perspectives. (b) The demystification of both the work of art and the artist through the direct or indirect involvement of the perceiver (onlooker, reader, listener). (c) A pluralistic reality. As a result of the information revolution a variety of contrasting influences, perspectives and ideas from across the global village find their way to the arts. en
