dc.description.abstract Investigates the particular nature of the training of teachers who will work in a non-Western developing community. The child, learning material and teacher are first considered from a cultural perspective. Reference is made to the demands placed on the child by the school, and the child's ability (or inability) to fulfill those demands, as well as the teacher's role in these situations. Attention is paid to the training of teachers with regard to the inclusion of a course on Cultural Studies, the pedagogical problems of the child from a developing community and the use of discussion rather than the lecture method of training. It is also recommended that the lecturers receive special training to prepare them for their task. Recommendations are also made concerning the evaluation and certification of students, and the organisation of training institutions. en
