dc.description.abstract Examines the child as temporality, and the role of education in bringing him / her from a childlike concern with the present to the future - oriented existence of the adult. Categories of the futurity of the becoming - adult are formulated. The reality structure of the pedagogic situation is placed in perspective and it is found that the category of accountable future orientation is central. It is established that the educationist must have the belief and the trust of the learner in order to anticipate an optimistic future expectation. It is argued that the categories and criteria of the universal foundation of the pedagogic, excluding all prejudices or preconceived notions which may accompany the educational phenomenon, should be interpreted in the light of the Christian - Protestant world and life wiew. A Christian education demands an orientation towards the past, present and future, and the task of the pedagogue is to prepare the child to enter the future without fear and in faith. This has implications for pedagogic support and for the becoming of the child. en
