dc.description.abstract Research was conducted on motivation as a management task. The study was motivated by the researcher's observation in the social work practice that social workers left the occupation. The purpose of the study was to determine the standard of knowledge and skills that social work managers need to obtain, to be able to motivate social workers to an acceptable level of productivity. The researcher conducted a literature study to understand the concept of motivation. The importance of motivation as a manager's task was obtained. The relevance of the theory was obtained and discussed after a field study was completed. By means of the empirical research, clarity was obtained of the knowledge and skills that a social work manager need. Conclusions and recommendations for future study were formulated as a result of this . research. en
