dc.description.abstract Forgiveness is a topic which has been researched from the religious perspective in the past. It is only in, the last two decades that research into forgiveness from the psychological perspective has increased. The present study explores forgiveness through the narrative approach, and aims to generate hypotheses for further research into forgiveness, as well as to generate features of forgiveness, through the grounded theory approach, that may lead towards a theory of forgiveness. Nine individuals who were hurt on the physical and / or psychological level told their stories. Their stories begin at the time when they were hurt, and end when they begin to recover from their hurt. By means of qualitative and quantitative techniques, the stories were analysed in order to identify aspects of the forgiveness process. Forgiveness, occurred in four out of the nine individuals. Their feelings, thoughts and behaviours were documented and related to the existing research on forgiveness. en
