dc.description.abstract Describes the development of a computer-based simulation model applicable to resource application planning in the technical core of a manufacturing concern. The model shows that simulation allows the planner to experiment without commiting resources to real-life experimentation or having to cope with the time-lag inherent in real-world testing of alternative approaches. It is concluded that simulation models do not develop optimal solutions to questions regarding strategic decisions but analyze the outcomes of various tactical alternatives. Seen in this context, simulation is not a substitute for planning. In applicable situations, it is one of the tools of planning and serves as an aid towards better decision-making. en
