dc.description.abstract In order to formulate a strategy for a small company operating a mediating technology, the dissertation first examines the behaviour of small firms. The subject of strategy is studied in order to ascertain the requirements for strategic planning. Chemco is then analysed in the framework formulated for strategic analysis. The company is shown to have maintained a rapid growth rate over the past few years and there are indications that this will continue. In the short term Chemco should be able to continue expansion in its traditional fields, but various external factors prevent indefinite expansion from the current base. A strategy is chosen which emphasises the current advantages which Chemco holds over its competitors, with the aim of giving the company a long term basis of competition. en
