dc.description.abstract Aims to determine which teaching methods would be of the greatest benefit in the teaching of Afrikaans, particularly as a second language. Afrikaans is important for communication, especially between Bantu and White, and for the teaching of certain subjects at school. The pupil must thus learn to speak and write Afrikaans fluently. Competence in terms of speech is achieved through oral exercises, and writing skills improved through grammar, composition and comprehension exercises. The teaching of language can be improved by programming within the framework of these four aspects. The methods used are based on typical methods of psychological research, including reports, questionnaires and projective techniques such as the Rorschach test. It was found that the experiment was the most suitable method for this study, as an exercise programme could be tested in this way. en
