dc.description.abstract The private tertiary institutions in East London are operating in intense market conditions where every solitary marketing tactic they employ affects their overall market share. Aggressive advertising and promotional campaigns are occuring monthly in order to attract the ever-allusive student. The researcher has noted that these institutions are primarily motivated by profits and their fundamental objective of quality education is slowly being cast by the wayside. The primary objective of this study is to explore and describe the competitive intensity that exists between private tertiary institutions that are operating in East London. en
