dc.description.abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the attitudes of adolescent boys towards sexuality in a Catholic Boys' school in South Africa. Secondly, the study also investigated the influences that inform these boys' attitudes towards sexuality. Adolescent boys in South Africa, and the world over, are vulnerable to a wide range of risk taking behaviour (drugs, alcohol and sex). The boys most at risk are those who experience a tension within their lives of developing an identity, a sense of who they really are. A number of factors play a meaningful role in shaping their values and attitudes. A research questionnaire examined the boys' attitudes towards sexuality and evaluated the main influences in their lives that have played a meaningful role in shaping their attitudes. A questionnaire was administered to 383 adolescent boys at an independent Catholic Boys' school ranging in ages from 12-19 (grades 7-12). This was done in order to measure the attitudes of the boys towards sexuality and how these attitudes were evident at different stages of their development through adolescence. This study also explored the boys' perceptions of the challenges facing them as well as life in a single-sex environment in South Africa. It is not the intention of this research to provide any conclusive documentation on the subject of adolescent boys' attitudes towards sexuality. However, the major findings of this research have been formulated as recommendations and implications for further research. The influence of the peer group and the media in shaping adolescent boys' attitudes cannot be underestimated. en
