dc.description.abstract Examines the advantages of the application of one microcomputer as resource for the teacher in the teaching of mathematics. The most important considerations in the study were the effectiveness and the affordability of the method. The effectiveness of this method of teaching is largely determined by the suitability of the software. The programming skills of the teacher are also taken into account. As only one microcomputer is used, the second criterion, namely affordability, is partially fulfilled. Programming skills can also contribute to savings as software can be developed 'internally'. It is concluded that this teaching method can be applied to the benefit of the whole pupil population of South Africa. en
