dc.description.abstract One of the requirements for satellite telemetry systems is the provision of reliable telemetry data to allow accurate monitoring of the satellite status. This thesis focuses on the design of telemetry software that meets this data reliability requirement. An improved synchronization strategy to allow efficient ground reception of the telemetry data is implemented on SUNSAT's direct link. The data collection and transmission functions are also enhanced by the addition of the necessary redundant information to the data while meeting the real-time requirements of the system. To enhance the software quality a development methodology entailing structured programming practices and modular decomposition is proposed. It is shown that the resulting telemetry software fulfils the functional requirements. en
