dc.description.abstract Investigates the development and use of a computer financial model for a small business. The report takes a comprehensive look at financial management and planning in the context of a small business. The report then explores the development and use of computer models in financial planning, including strategy formulation and evaluation. Two different approaches used in financial model building optimisation and simulation are assessed. Some of the pitfalls to be avoided when introducing a financial model are considered. The programme which has been chosen to develop the model is the ICL Prosper package. The background and activities of the UK trading company on which the model has been based are discussed. The report contains a cost benefit analysis of the model before concluding that the company under consideration should seriously investigate the possibility of developing and using a financial model. en
