dc.description.abstract The author explains the purpose of this report as follows: "The game INVENT simulates a production and inventory business environment and is used, at the Graduate School of Business, to reinforce Operational Management techniques taught in the lecture theatre. INVENT was developed originally by I. Becke in 1982 as a Technical Report for his Master of Business Administration degree (MBA)... "The objectives of this research are firstly, to assess the effectiveness of INVENT as a learning tool. This is done by evaluating the student assessment reports on their experiences of INVENT, and by conducting further research into gaming as a learning technique. The second objective is to make recommendations on improvements to the game; with particular regard to its playability. Additionally, the game must be adaptable by the lecturer, or administrator, so that it supports the curriculum at different stages through the course. The last objective is to implement these recommendations and create a new and improved game INVENT II, together with the supporting documentation and manuals... "The new game INVENT II has been developed using an IBM PC micro-computer and... Dbase III... "The objectives of INVENT II are [that it should]...: - "... facilitate the learning of operational management techniques, particularly those associated with a production environment... - "... provide... exposure to the problems and decision making processes of such an environment... - "... be adaptable by the game administrator so that emphasis can be given to specific aspects..." en
