Abstract:
This study attempted to resocialize nurses from functional to scientific nursing, to quality standards, in order to meet the new requirements of the South African Nursing Council. A study of relevant literature provided an extensive theoretical framework for designing a threepart progessive developmental innovation project comprising a practical model which makes scientific nursing operational; project instrument and an analytical-innovative-evaluative research method model was used to complete the first part of the project. The practical model was extensively tested and validated under real conditions while resocializing nurses to its use and introducing change throughout a representative setting. A promising shift towards behaviour characteristic of scientific nursing occurred. The model was accepted. A continuation strategy was proposed to close the behavioural differential further, to effect certain identified necessary adjustments in the setting and to test the full potential of the practical model as a means for obtaining quality nursing care in accordance with requirements.
