dc.description.abstract Writers have often written about the value of public transport and the problems which are experienced in this respect. The aim of this study draws attention specifically to the transportation of scholars by bus. An indication is given of the necessity and indispensability of transport by schoolbus based on social and economic grounds and that the quality, safety and productivity are the most important requirements that this form of transport should comply with. In this study the problems experienced with transportation by schoolbus is stressed as well as the negative influence these problems have on the quality, safety and productivity of this service. Certain recommendations are made which may help to solve or alleviate these problems and thus promote the quality, safety and productivity of this service. Due to the fact that little documentation in connection with this subject is available, use was mainly made of personal interviews with officials of the Transvaal Education Department and contractors of Schoolbus Services. en
