dc.description.abstract A qualitative evaluation of the effectiveness of the career information given at the Careers 2000 exhibition held in Johannesburg in April - May 1992. The effectiveness of the information was ascertained by means of a questionnaire individually administrated by the researcher in an interview format. The sample group consisted of 48 pupils random selected over a six day period. Of the sample, 12 had English as their home language, 12 Afrikaans, and 12 a Black language. The researcher filled in the responses of the pupils verbatim on an individual basis, and the total time taken to fill each questionnaire was approximately 45 minutes to one hour. Responses from exhibitors were also collected. Findings were given and recommendations were made. that the use of Holland's (1985) theory be improved through the use of an interactive workbook; that no pupils be allowed to miss the introductory lecture; that an interactive workbook be provided to pupils to ensure that they remain proactive in the process of career/information collection; that pupils have a little "unstructured" time as possible to ensure maximum interaction with the exhibition; that information be given in a uniform format that would both answer their needs and encourage participation; that more local tertiary education institutions be present; that bursary information be a priority; and that entrepreneurial skills training courses be available in answer to our economic crisis. en
