dc.description.abstract The objective of this study was to investigate the possible requirements for improving the performance of a production unit in the petrochemical industry. The first step was to present and test a structure for raising productivity at the level of supervisor. A matrix for a productivity improvement programme was then developed. The matrix incorporated the following six factors: labour; procedures; equipment; cost and schedule planning; material and products, and service. Labour was further divided into organizational structure, employment, training, management by objectives, communication, recognition and participation. The key element is the interaction of all these equally important factors. en
