dc.description.abstract The objective of this study was to determine the need for foreign capital in the economic development of Bophuthatswana. The extent of the need was arrived at by calculating the difference between the total demand for, and supply of, domestically generated capital. It is of the utmost importance that an excessive need for foreign capital be reduced. It stands to reason that this may be accomplished either by a decrease in the demand for capital and/or an increase in the domestic supply of capital. Due to the direct relation between the demand for capital and the GDP, that demand can be reduced only if the growth rate in the projected GDP is decreased. Alternatively, the domestic supply of capital can be increased by personal savings, corporate savings and savings by the government. An attempt should be made to bring about either an increase in current income or a curtailment of current expenditure. en
