Abstract:
Since the mid-1970s many small businesses have employed mircocomputers. However, a high percentage have been less functional than was expected. This is due among other factors, to the lack of well defined information plans. This study investigated different processes for information system planning, applicable to service stations in the Vaal Triangle. Although there are many similarities between service stations, virtually each has its own business objectives that require a unique set of information systems. Because of this, an ideal information plan to meet the demands of the various stations in the Vaal Triangle, could not be formulated. But data collected were used to identify the main objectives of the different oil companies.
