dc.description.abstract This study investigated the attitude towards sex education of parents of pupils in standard 9 at Afrikaans secondary schools in the western Transvaal region of the Transvaal Education Department. The aim was to establish the person or body that parents considered best suited to give sex education. A questionnaire showed their choice, in order of preference, to be as follows: parents themselves; the deputy superintendent, family guidance, of the T.E.D.; medical personnel; the Department of National Health and Population Development, and teachers. A large percentage of the parents preferred that their children should not obtain sex education from a minister of the church. They approved the school family guidance programme and indicated that they would appreciate school-organized sex education for parents. en
