dc.description.abstract Conflict as a social phenomenon has recently attracted great attention from various social sciences. As long as industrial sociologists disregarded conflict in industry and concentrated on problems of integrating the individual with the enterprise, strikes were not thought a proper subject of sociological inquiry. It is only recently that social scientists have become interested in industrial conflict. It is generally accepted that conflict is generated by economic, ideological, socio-cultural and personal differences between people. And it is also accepted that collective bargaining is an interactive process and that any human relationship has a conflict potential. Conflict is usually associated with a certain type of behaviour, and this leads to the perception that it is negative, destructive and certainly undesirable. The modern approach is to see conflict as potentially healthy and beneficial. en
