dc.description.abstract The provision of education, including education for black adult workers, enjoys high priority within Anglo American. However the programme offered to mineworkers at this stage is not as effective as it should be. The main fault in the present structure is that it does not make provision for the formulation of a policy for formal education by those who are directly involved. To correct the situation, it is proposed that a system of group and participative management be implemented. This can be facilitated by the creation of regional committees and a central committee for education. The purpose of the regional committees will be to discuss educational problems in the region, while the purpose of the central committee will be to adapt the policy according to the needs of the company. The advantage of such a system is that it will be goal orientated and will make provision for the formulation of a policy for formal education - which is essential if it is to function in an orderly manner. en
