dc.description.abstract The nature of contingency planning in schools has been determined through the study of relevant reading matter. It has been shown that the safety of children in schools is very vulnerable. As a result every school must provide a practical contingency plan. This must be documented in the event of any emergency, so that the arms, safety equipment and the manpower for various contingencies can be readily available and carefully administered. An empirical study concerning the implementation of the contingency plan by the DSO has emphasised the following: * managerial aspects in planning and implementation of the plan * liaison with public sector and parents * staff participation and training * relevant control finally, guidelines and recommendations for the DSO in implementing contingency plans in secondary schools have been provided. en
