dc.description.abstract The Jung personality questionnaire was designed in South Africa by the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) to implement Jung's theory of personality type. The objective of this study was to obtain more information about the construct validity of the JPQ. For this purpose the psychometric test data of the 1988 and 1989 first-year students enrolled at the Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education was used. The students represented all faculties of the university. Construct validity cannot be indicated by a single coefficient, and for this reason all results were integrated to obtain an overall impression. In general the results suggested significant indication of the construct validity of the JPQ. The convergent validity of the extroversion-introversion scale, and to a lesser extent the thinking-feeling scale, was confirmed. Results pointing to the discriminant validity of the JPQ were positive. The process of construct validation of the JPQ is not yet complete. From the results obtained in this study it is suggested that further research should include the use of a broader spectrum of subjects and of instruments with a stronger relation to the JPQ. en
