dc.description.abstract Architectural practices are experiencing an increased tendency for potential clients to request a detailed quotation of costs for the professional services to be rendered. Architects in general cannot negotiate confidently on fee structures because of a lack of suitable management information. The aim of this research was to determine the management information that is available from, and the importance of, timesheets. An extensive study was made of the theoretical background, and a comprehensive questionnaire was mailed to the study population. A total of 77 questionnaires were processed. The results indicated that 36% of the respondents had never completed timesheets; and that 84% of all architectural practices that do make use of timesheets process them manually. The recommendation of this study is that the key factors is identified for keeping and processing timesheets should be incorporated into all architectural practices. This will be more readily achieved through the extensive use of personalized computer systems. en
